Gillian’s Intervention

Filed under: writing, Internet, flashfic — Brendan @ 11:54 pm

This is a bit of Flash Fiction (I capitalize because it’s a relatively new thing, you know) that I wrote that I don’t think anyone else is going to publish. Enjoy, although all evidence I have indicates that it’s shit.

Anyway, you don’t need to know what I really think.

If anyone’s interested, I also wrote this in the opposite direction, like you’d read in a forum.

Long time…

I haven’t been saying much here, I’ve been doing other things, you know, the kind that could lead to compensation of the monetary sort. If you’re good, I could leak a piece or two of my upcoming GN later.

Fast Breaking News

I was going to hold out until I had the story I mentioned earlier all typed out, but I had to to share this. Apparently, if Russians encounter alien life, they will eat it. All ethical discussion of whether or not alien intelligence is a viable food source or not aside, that shit’s fucked.

Turns out it’s not an alien, it’s a guitar fish, but still, that’s awesome.

Review: The Horror of Collier County

Filed under: comics, review — Brendan @ 1:45 pm

So, yeah, so much for getting useful things done. Civilization is the enemy of productivity. I did get a chance to read The Horror of Collier County by Rich Tommaso, though. Last time I hit the comic shop some irresponsible idiot had given me a coupon for 15% off the whole order and I had a hankering for indy comics and horror; THoCC jumped out at me.

The art and the story telling are really representative of the late nineties indy comic scene, think Clowes and Tomine, without coming across as a rip off of anything in particular. While the art doesn’t particularly stick out, the story itself is a solid fast-paced read with hints of Faulkner. I recommend it if you’ve got some cash and you’re looking for something substantial that’s not going to eat all of your income and time for several months.

a little meta-blogging, if you will

Filed under: site shit..., writing — Brendan @ 7:05 pm

So, I’ve been working on a bunch of stuff that would not be evident if the website were the only impact I have on the world that you’re aware of. I’ll grant that I don’t have much impact beyond this, but… what am I doing with my life?

Anyway, the infrastructure has been put in place for a new source of content! I’ll write reviews of comics, music, whatever, and you will read them. You’ve got no choice, I mean, what else have you got to do? I’ll mostly stick to indy stuff, things you may not have heard of already. I’m not going to say that I don’t like the new Batman title, but, let’s face it, DC don’t need no help marketing.

The first thing you’ll probably notice is the Amazon affiliate link I’ll be putting at the end of the review to make it a bit easier for you to find it if you think you might like to exchange your hard earned dollars for whatever I’m talking about. You should not feel obligated to buy things through me, although I like getting money for not actually doing anything as much as the next guy. If you’d rather support your local shop, that’s totally cool. Buying it from some huge chain is decidedly less cool, but if kowtowing to The Man is your bag, by all means, be that guy.

You’ll probably hear more out of me later.
