Working…

Filed under: comics, writing — Brendan @ 12:23 am

Seems like all I do now is work, but you know. Anyway, things are happening with Hallowed. You know it’s important now, because it’s in italics. It should be finished to the point that I have drafts of all three issues typed in a few days if I can hit a typing night. For now, look below the cut for a sequence I’ve taken from one of the early pages of issue 3. I like it, but not as much as some of the other stuff, and it all works even better in context.

Forgive the clumsy formatting.

Work update: I am so excited

Filed under: comics, writing, the future, crazy guy, disorganized mess — Brendan @ 6:59 pm

Well, I just scratched the last few words of the third issue of Hallowed into my notebook which means that I have completed the first draft of the entire series! All that remains is typing it in, editing everything, finding an artist, schmoozing editors, poisoning/stabbing competition, wrestling a bear, getting the artist to do something, writing a pitch, choosing cover art… Oh God.

I’ll leak some pages of script later to build anticipation.

Anyway, I also have a pile of artists lined up for Gone and my laptop is threatening to die at any moment. More news later.

Gone

Okay, things are happening with Gone.

I’ve been in touch with a couple of artists who may be interested in working with me, although one has stopped talking to me, so I either scared him off or he’s taking his time with the reading. If you read this, “jm”, let me know if you’re still there.

Also, Shamus has promised that the next page will be done soon, so we should see it within a month. Hah! I’m a prick.

Last thing, I spent damned near an hour getting the logo right, then my camera didn’t work. I’ve got it finished, though. Since I’m not really an artist, you see, so I wrote it. I took a shot of it with my phone, but I’ll get a better one later, taken with a real camera, properly lit, not held up in front of the TV.

Fuck yeah, am I right?

Gone…

Filed under: comics — Brendan @ 4:56 pm

The second page of the first A Deeper Shade of Gone is up and ready for you to marvel at. We haven’t gotten to the part where my writing really shines yet, but the artist is, as always, impressive.

I’m going to start looking for artists more aggressively, so if you want in on that action early on, let me know.

oops, damn

I forgot to mention something. Another comic project has taken another step toward happening.

To quote the artist:

are you still keen on that comic? I think I have the time starting like now

to which I responded:

Umm, yeah, I’m all about the comic thing.

… I post things I said in emails in my blog.

Anyway, some details. The comic will be called Really Good Advice. It will be an advice column, done in comic format. For now, it’s mostly just things that pop into my head that I am interested in giving you advice on. If you have a burning question, you should email me, unless it’s burning in your “private places” in which case you should go to a doctor (that’s some really good advice right there). I will mix actual questions I can answer in with the fake ones I made up and wish people would ask me. I will not tell you which is which.

I don’t have a URL right now, or anything to give you. Just get excited, okay?

Clowns… clowns…

Filed under: comics, crazy guy, disorganized mess — Brendan @ 3:13 am

It’s late at night and sleep isn’t anywhere near by. I haven’t really got anything to say beyond the following news for people who might be keeping track of the work I’ve been doing:

Hallowed: issue two is in the can (first typed draft, anyway) and sent to the readers, and issue three is nigh half scratched out on paper.

The Martyr: An entirely new project is being roughed out with a collaborator (sadly enough, I’m the experienced comic writist of the two of us; I’m expecting this project to somehow climb into a car and crash it, dying a firey death, but I’m a paranoid freakk). I will not say much, except that it will probably offend you, or at least your mother. My mother probably won’t be offended, though. Seems like I can’t make enough of a mess of my life to piss her off most of the time, really.

If, upon reading it (or Hallowed, for that matter) you feel that you need to assassinate me or something, contact my secretary for an appointment, as always.
