I’m low on sleep and most of the toxic things I use to avoid dealing with the world like a healthy human being. Result? I’m posting pictures of animals to my blog. The caption for this should either be something about it being hugz time now, or not wanting.
Let’s see, I’m tired as all get out, so I’ll bullet point this:
Hallowed: Slowly nearing completion.
A Deeper Shade of Gone: I’ve got some artists lined up, and I’m considering hiring someone to stab Shamus if he doesn’t show me some more pages soon. I’ve even started a couple of new scripts, so there should be lots of content soon (in theory).
The Martyr: Tentative title of an upcoming collaboration with an associate from my past. It will probably be a while, but I’ll leak a page here and there. Expect a comic consisting almost entirely of people screaming at each other and getting kicked in the face.
Novel: As yet un-named, and kind of unfocused; you’ll hear more in the future!
So very tired.
I’m not familiar with Mawil Witzel’s work at all, so I’m writing this as I read the novel originally, in a vacuum as far as that goes.
The artwork is something. Alone, it’s worth the price. He really captures the feel you get from spending too much time on the beach; The borderline heat stroke, the crashing waves, the heat of the sun, the constant press of wind and sand, the cackling flocks of gulls.
As far as the storytelling goes, I’m having a hard time coming up with anything to say that doesn’t sound like a backhanded compliment from a frustrated hack. Maybe it’s a little predictable, maybe it’s a little trite, but it’s effective, charismatic, and it speaks to me. Mix in a little bit of shamelessly blatant self insertion, and that’s what you get. I’m not going to call it ground breaking, or the best thing I’ve ever read, but it’s on my shelf, and I’ll probably read it again a few times.
Of course, maybe I’m being gentle with it because I’m, quite literally, marooned on a beach. If you are too I’d definitely recommend it, and if you’re not it’s worth taking a look anyway.
I’m trying out my powers to post things from Flickr. Expect more things that look like content.

I am awesome at putting off working! There are more pictures, you know.
Fast breaking news: cutting your hair makes you look less like a serial killer.

Damn, that’s not a good look. I look like Trent Reznor going through withdrawal.

It’s not much of an improvement, but at least it doesn’t look like I’m going to eat you.
I’ll post a work update (there’s some actual news on that front) and a review later.
