The future comes traipsing

Filed under: sci-fi, the future, outside world — Brendan @ 12:46 am

You remember how robots used to be terrifying, powerful automatons that could do everything we couldn’t and kept coming back in time to kill some whiny kid we all wished was dead after a few minutes anyway? Then, at some point in the 90’s they got friendly, and we got things like Asimo, and Ai-bo, and even when they were trying to kill us, it looked like Steve Jobs had designed them specifically to be really bad at killing people. Well, it’s time to be afraid of robots again. Really afraid.

That said, if one of these fuckers could run at a decent clip and it didn’t sound like someone trying to cut through a mobile home with a chainsaw, I would totally ride it. I would ride it, while wearing an unlikely hat.

So…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Brendan @ 2:15 am

If anyone’s been paying really close attention they’ve probably noticed disappearing posts. Here’s what happened: I wrote a thing, and maybe I posted it before it had been proofread properly. Then I woke up (not hung over, I’m a professional (in the sense that I’m good at it, not because I’m making lots of money)) and realised that what I’d written made no sense (okay, that’s not professional at all). I don’t even just mean that it was stupid. It looked like marzipan had gotten drunk and started talking about music. Seriously. Marzipan is made of almonds.

Anyway, that happened, then, Gary Gygax died. I thought about calling into work sick, but I didn’t do it for Hunter S. Thompson, I don’t think I should do it for any childhood heroes I didn’t actually know. I apologize for the sketchy link, but it’s the first one I saw. I think I’m going to bury my favourite dice for him, when I get a chance. Sure, I’m going to fail some throws because of it, but he needs them more.

I’ll fix things soon, so they make sense.

The Mother Fucking Rock

Filed under: pieces, disorganized mess — Brendan @ 2:38 am

I haven’t evaporated! I did try to, but, you know, pain threshold. Everything’s still happening, unless something isn’t. There may be even more, I dunno. Anyway, in th mean time, here’s a little piece I wrote about Rock music. Consider yourself lucky that you’re reading this, and not listening to the Pat Boone cover of Enter Sandman. Seriously, dat shit not right.

Anyway, here’s the piece. I think it’s going to be a bit of the novel. I’m not sure who’s going to say it. For the record, the first time I really heard rock and roll, it would have been the Doors. I’m not sure which song. Jim Morrison made everything else work, though. Also, I like Cheap Trick.

It would tickle me to no end if every one (hah, since I know how many people that is, it’s funny, so really I mean anyone) would chime in with their own rock music moments. Come on, kids. I know there’s some neat ones.

The actual text is below the cut, and will probably disappoint you.
