I’m just not going to wake up today, but, I thought I’d mention that DEAD OR WORSE goes live tomorrow. It will update on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but we’re throwing in an extra on Monday, just because we’re swell guys. Once again, it’s a Western fantasy/black comedy, with Luis Boisvert holding the pencil and myself pressing letter keys.
I should not be this tired.
There’s an important announcement up:
SEPTEMBER 23 2008, 2:43PM
There’s danger behind every door, over every hill, on every grim face. In a place that’s half real and half legend, these wretches do what they must to carve out lives in a time when the only choice is to step on others, or be walked on yourself. Every face and every scar has a story if you can stand to look. The lucky die, for the rest, there’s worse.
Watch this space, because artist LUIS BOISVERT and writer BRENDAN PEVERIL are bringing the fucking noise very soon.
LUIS BOISVERT has been a fixture in the local comics scene for years both as an artist and a writer. His fledgeling efforts at both webcomics and self publishing have met with universal praise and brought him no small amount of recognition. After years of honing his craft, the antediluvian art of drawing tits and violence, he’s ready to change the landscape of online comics with his most ambitious project to date.
BRENDAN PEVERIL has been an Internet dirtbag since before you knew what an Internet was. His exploits are many, and though his name may not be a household one, important men grow quiet when he enters a room. He’s dabbled in many things, fiction, comic writing, journalism, blogging, but always with an intensity that usually escapes a mere dilettante. You may not know him now, but you will, and by then it might be too late.
DEAD OR WORSE debuts MONDAY, NOVEMBER 3RD, 2008.

Yeah I’ve been quiet recently. More on that later, I guess. The novel’s chugging along, and so are some other projects.
While I’m being boring, you should check out Dropsy. He’s being thrown out of the circus, and we need to help him. It’s impossible to not love him, guys.
Dropsy originated in a Something Awful forum, but it’s been collected here if you’d like to see more but you’re afraid of getting goon on you (you should be).
Look at me, I forgot to do that. I’ve been kind of lax on doing anything recently while I try to get my life in order and find a place to live. No more excuses, though. Here’s the last page of Death’s Children, or you can start here if reading the whole thing is what you dig. Everything else is still happening, I’m just not driving as hard at it while I’m homeless is all.
I did it last year, I’m doing it this year. It’s the webcomics I’m into! You see, after driving back and forth across the continent a few times, I’m taking a little time to wind down. Luckily there are webcomics to read while I’m not getting any work done.
A ground rule I’m setting myself here is that I’m going to stick to newer or less known stuff. You’re already reading Achewood, you don’t need me to tell you about how great it is.
Lizzy: Straddles the line between comic and flash cartoon. If nothing else, it’s important that someone is trying to do something new with new media. That’s how cool shit gets built, kids. On top of that, you won’t regret the time spent reading the actual comic either.
Dresden Codak: Now with a story line! Seriously, it’s the shit.
A Softer World: Joey’s off kilter and sort of unhealthy relationship with the world is one of the only things that makes me smile consistently.
Octopus Pie: An aquaintance of Jeffrey Rowland’s, I gather. It’s impossible to not like this comic.
Kate Beaton: History, family, uniquely Canadian pop culture, childhood, Kierkegaard. Kate makes fun of all of those things.
Gunnerkrigg Court: A long format narrative, it’s like Harry potter that doesn’t make me want to claw my eyes out. There’s no terrible slash fic to go with it, as far as I know. If you find some do not tell me under any circumstances. It will only cause me rages. That said, It’s really good, and there’s lots to read there.
Seamonster: I’ve known about this, and the rest of Nathan Castle’s work for a long time and, I still don’t know what to say. That’s probably why it’s never gotten a link.
Three Panel Soul: It’s Matt and Ian, the Machall guys. Of course, if that means anything to you, you’re already familiar with tps.
Girls With Slingshots: I just discovered Danielle’s work a few months ago. I regret that deeply.
Alright. I’m tired already, but this has only been like half of the stuff I meant to get to, which doesn’t even include that stuff I was going to gloss over because I assume you already know about it. Expect phase two in a couple of days.

So, yeah, it’s late. I blame the slow internet connection. I’ve posted the next page of Death’s Children, though. I’m also in the midst of planning a pile of bigger and more awesome things. We’ll see how that works out.
Okay, so I didn’t get it done yesterday. Here’s the update, though. I’ve decided that Shamus is taking too long to get me the last pages of that story he’s drawing, so I’m just going to go ahead and post the next one.
Death’s Children is written by me and drawn by John Muth. I’ll have regular weekly updates until it’s all posted (four pages means four weeks), and I’ll get the rest of the pages of The Time Traveller posted as I get them.

So, I went to a book signing yesterday. You probably already know who Faith Hicks is from the venerable (by webcomic standards) Demonology 101. Her debut graphic novel is less a zombie story than a meta zombie story, so if you spend a lot of time thinking about zombies it will be your bag. I do that, waste time thinking about zombies.
Anyway, the important parts, there’s clever dialogue, asskicking, and the story skips along effortlessly when it needs to without getting mired in details or labourious fight scenes. The books reads a lot like Max Brooks’ zombie stuff, only without his eerie humourless affect. It’s exactly what it needs to be.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Faith comes up with next and you should be too. I’d try to explain why she wrote “Wolf Blitzer!” while she was defiling my book, but it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. It was funny at the time, but you had to be there.
At a rate too slow to generate interest or to actually be read, I’m slowly getting this first story posted. Here’s the next one.
In other news, the page for A Deeper Shade of Gone is going to change shortly. I’m not sure how shortly. I had all kinds of other things I wanted to say, but I don’t feel like it now. I may post again later. Of course, every time I say something like that, it doesn’t happen.
So, I just finished the first typed draft (meaning the second draft, but the first I’ll ever show someone) of Hallowed. The whole goddamned thing. Holy shit. It will still be a while before the likes of you has a chance to read it, unless you’re unlucky enough to be in my reading team. Of course, even they don’t all read it.
Whatever, though. Here’s a list of what I still need to do:
Find an artist
Figure out how to write a treatment
Trick the artist into producing a few pages for the treatment
Write a treatment
Perform oral sex on the editorial staff of one or more comic publishers
Howl my wordless anguish at the sky
Choke the living shit out of the artist for being a flaky artist
Profit (a very small profit, barely worth mentioning, really)
If you’re an artist who wants a piece of Hallowed, or perhaps a member of the editorial staff of a comic company who wants oral sex, email me.
I’ve got time for a little bit more work related news.
The novel is happening! Seriously. I’m surprised at how much I’m writing, and how real it feels. Creeps me out, really.
Gone is grinding along. Why don’t we all stab Shamus, for not being a little quicker with that. Hell, I’ve got work from other artists waiting in the wings for Shamus to hurry up. Seriously, dude.
There’s a new project! A magazine type thing, which will happen as my credit limit allows in the real world. I think I may have to self publish, on account of it being three shades of batshit insane. On the bright side, I think it will probably make so little money that I won’t actually have to pay taxes for it. Sweeeet.
